Irina Fedorova is a Russian-born painter and visual artist whose work explores the intersection of reality, memory, and spirituality. Raised in an intellectual family and trained in both languages and the visual arts, she has developed a distinctive artistic language characterized by poetic symbolism, dreamlike imagery, and a fascination with the metaphysical. Living and working in Europe, Fedorova creates paintings that invite contemplation and seek to reveal the invisible dimensions of human experience. Her work ranges from icon-inspired compositions to richly textured contemporary abstractions, reflecting a lifelong search for beauty, inner freedom, and artistic truth.

In this conversation for Imagofeminae, we speak with Berlin-based artist Irina Fedorova about the quiet alchemy of summer as a source of creative renewal. Moving between travel, memory, and perception, her work reflects a practice rooted in attentive observation and emotional resonance. In a time shaped by rapid technological change and shifting cultural landscapes, Fedorova reflects on the enduring role of the artist as a mediator between inner experience and the external world.

imagofeminae: Welcome to today’s interview, Irina.

Irina Fedorova: I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to be interviewed by such a prestigious magazine. For me, this is both a privilege and an honor, as well as a meaningful sign of recognition.

imagofeminae: Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Irina Fedorova: I am an artist living and working in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from the University of Potsdam, I earned a degree in Cultural and Art Studies. My artistic journey is a continuous exploration of new forms of expression through light, texture, and emotion. I work with painting as well as mixed media, allowing materials and ideas to engage in a creative dialogue with one another.
Over the years, I have participated in international exhibitions and art projects in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and Russia. Today, my works can be found in private collections across different countries.

imagofeminae: Irina, summer is traditionally regarded as a season of rest and travel. What does this time of year mean to you as an artist?

Irina Fedorova: For me, summer is above all a season of inspiration. Like many people, I use this time to travel and discover new places. Yet wherever I may be, whether in a historic European city, by the sea, or surrounded by the serenity of nature, I am always searching for traces of art.
These traces reveal themselves in architecture, sculpture, museum collections, cultural traditions, or simply in the extraordinary harmony of the world around us. Every journey becomes a source of new emotions. Sometimes a single, unexpected combination of colors in the evening sky is enough to spark the idea for a future painting. Everything I see evokes a profound emotional response that inevitably finds its way onto the canvas. 

imagofeminae:With what feelings do you return home?

Irina Fedorova: Every time I return from a journey, I eagerly hurry to my studio and prepare several canvases at once. I know that a special kind of magic is about to begin: a dialogue between paint and canvas, where everything I have seen, experienced, and felt is reborn through color and form.
For me, this is one of the most exhilarating moments of the creative process. The memories are still vivid, the emotions retain their intensity, and I feel an irresistible desire to share them with the viewer.

imagofeminae:What does the process of creating a painting mean in your life?

Irina Fedorova:Painting is far more than a profession or a passion for me. It is a unique way of understanding both the world and myself. Through art, I reflect on what I have witnessed, express my emotions, and share them with others.
When I am working on a painting, time seems to slow down. The noise of everyday life fades away, and my attention becomes focused on what truly matters - the search for beauty and meaning.
I believe that an artist remains an artist at all times. Whether I am walking through a city or talking with people, I instinctively notice the play of light, expressive silhouettes, and intriguing color harmonies. Art has become an integral part of how I perceive the world, influencing every aspect of my daily life. It teaches me to pay attention to details, to recognize beauty in simplicity, and to preserve a sense of wonder.

imagofeminae: Humanity is currently experiencing an era of rapid technological transformation. Artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, and quantum computing are reshaping our reality. What does an artist feel in such a time?

Irina Fedorova:I believe that today’s artist experiences a combination of curiosity, admiration, and responsibility. We are witnessing developments that only recently belonged to the realm of science fiction.
Artificial intelligence is capable of generating images, analyzing immense volumes of information, and offering unexpected creative possibilities. Yet I remain convinced that technology cannot replace human emotion, lived experience, or an individual’s unique perception of the world.
For contemporary artists, it is important not to fear change but to learn how to engage with it. Adaptation has become an essential part of the creative profession. We embrace new tools, explore digital possibilities, and experiment with emerging technologies.
Nevertheless, the primary source of art remains the human being and the richness of the inner world.

imagofeminae:Do you see the development of artificial intelligence as a threat to art?

Irina Fedorova:No, I see it as a new stage in the evolution of the creative landscape. Every era has brought its own discoveries and challenges. When photography first appeared, many predicted the end of painting. Yet the opposite happened: artists discovered entirely new paths of expression.
I believe the same will be true today. Artificial intelligence will become a tool rather than a substitute for the artist. Authentic art is born where there is a personal story, genuine emotion, spiritual depth, and a sincere desire to communicate something meaningful to the world.

imagofeminae:How do you see the role of the artist in the modern world?

Irina Fedorova:In my view, the role of the artist has become more important than ever. We live in a world of extraordinary speed and endless streams of information. People increasingly struggle to find time for reflection and meaningful inner dialogue.
Art invites us to pause and to feel. It reminds us that behind every technology, every algorithm, and every data stream stands a human being with hopes, dreams, emotions, and aspirations.
The artist is not merely a creator of works but a bridge between the external world and the inner life of humanity. Through art, we preserve our capacity for empathy, contemplation, and the ability to recognize beauty even in the most challenging times.

imagofeminae: What would you like to wish our readers this summer?

irina Fedorova: Never stop seeking inspiration. Travel, discover new places, visit exhibitions, listen to music, and spend time observing nature. Sometimes the most meaningful discoveries are much closer than we imagine.
All it takes is a moment of stillness and the willingness to see the world through the eyes of an artist. Then summer truly becomes a season of inspiration.
